On Saturday, January 6, 2007, Sophomore
Band Member, Stephen Duncan was selected to the Association
of Texas Small School Bands, All State Band for the second
consecutive year. The auditions begin with the
Regional rounds held across the state usually in early
December with the top students from each Region advancing to
the Area round which is held the first Saturday in January.
From the Area round the top students advance to the State
round which is held each February in San Antonio. Due to the
number of auditioning students, it is an extremely difficult
feat to achieve All-State status, and an even greater one to
repeat consecutively. Stephen's ultimate goal is to
reach the State level all four years of high school.
As a member of the All-State Band,
Stephen is eligible for a $100 scholarship from the ATSSB
Region VII for each year he makes the All-State Band, and if
he makes the organization his senior year he will be
eligible to receive from the Statewide ATSSB organization a
$500 scholarship plus $300 from ATSSB Region VII as a 3-year
All-Stater. Should Stephen meet his goal of 4 years in the
All State Band, he will receive a scholarship of $1000 from
ATSSB plus $400 total from ATSSB Region VII.
Three students represented the Rio
Vista High School Band at the Area auditions held at
Robinson High School in Robinson. They were: Brandy Chapman,
Flute; Stephen Duncan, Clarinet; John Paris, Bass Clarinet.
This is the most students from RVHS to advance to the Area
round ever. Last year, Stephen Duncan was the first student
from Rio Vista to be selected to the All-State Band, and was
also the first to advance to Area. As the RVHS Band
continues to grow and improve, more and more students will
be representing the district at the highest levels of
competition in band. |
